The Colchester Band have been in existence since 1860 and are regular performers in and around the Colchester area. We are currently a nationally registered 2nd Section Band and compete in contests in southern England.
We are amateur musicians from Colchester and the surrounding district ranging from 13 to 65+ in age.
Our rehearsals are at The Acorn Centre which is off Harwich Road in Colchester on a Tuesday between 7:45pm to 9:45pm.
We have competed in the National Finals of the British Brass Band Championships of Great Britain on a number of occasions, and have previously won the London and Home Counties First Section. Our concerts are performed at a variety of venues, including Colchester Castle Park, Halstead Park, Charter Hall and previously the London Royal Parks. We also feature at numerous fetes and fund raising events locally, and have also been on tour to Netherlands and Germany in recent years.
If you are new to the area or if you are interested in playing in our brass band, please contact us.
The Colchester Band also has a thriving Training Band which performs a variety of engagements throughout the year (including end of term concerts and joint concerts with the Senior Band) as well as undertaking engagements in their own right. The Training Band rehearses every Friday during term time and day courses are held during the school holidays. The Training Band is open to all children and adult brass players of a beginner / intermediate standard. The Training Band is lead by Anne Ruddock, a brass peripatetic instrumental teacher for both Southend-on-Sea Music Services and Essex Music Services.
The Colchester Band has instruments that can be used by new recruits to the Training Band – free of charge. For the free use of an instrument all the Training Band expects from members is that they attend rehearsals on a regular basis and pay the £2.00 subs per session.
